Description
This barn, located about 15 metres south-west of Little Cheveney Farmhouse, dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, sitting on a rendered plinth, topped with a plain tile roof. The barn features six short timber-framed bays arranged at right angles to the road, with a midstrey located in the third bay from the right. The roof is half-hipped on the left (south) side and gabled on the north side, and there is a lean-to at the rear (west). Full-height double doors are positioned to the right of the centre, and there is a single-storey weatherboarded extension at the right gable end. Inside, the barn includes gunstock jowls, straight braces, and re-used timber, along with two curved tension braces. The roof structure consists of clasped-purlins with diminishing principal rafters and vertical queen-struts to the collars, as well as staggered butt purlins in the left end bay and a renewed roof in the right end bay. The barn is included for its group value.
