Description
Blue House Farmhouse is a Grade II listed farmhouse with a core dating back to the 15th century, featuring alterations from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The building is timber-framed, with a ground floor made of 19th-century red brick and a weatherboarded first floor. The right gable end is weatherboarded on the ground floor and tile-hung on the first floor, while the left gable end has brick on the ground floor and is weatherboarded above. The roof is covered with plain tiles.
The farmhouse consists of approximately three timber-framed bays, including a narrow stack bay that originally had an additional bay to the right, which is now missing. The right bay likely represents the right end of an open hall. The right end wall, rear wall, and possibly other walls date from the 15th century, while the flooring and chimney on the left end are from the 17th century, and the dormers are from the 18th century. The building has two storeys set on a flint plinth and features a hipped roof with a central brick ridge stack and two hipped dormers. The fenestration is regular, consisting of two three-light casements, and there is a central panelled door beneath a flat hood. A 19th-century lean-to is present at the rear.
The interior has been partly inspected and includes a 15th-century end of hall partition to the right with heavy braces, along with features from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The farmhouse is partly located in Otterden Civil Parish.
