Description

Markings Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates back to the early 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 16th or early 17th century and the 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of timber framing and plaster, topped with plain tiled roofs. It features a large rectangular stack on the left side and a ridge stack on the right. The building stands two storeys high with attics and originally consisted of four timber-framed bays. It has a continuous jetty and an added cross wing to the southwest, along with a 19th-century outshut in the angle.

The exterior includes three half-glazed and boarded doors, with the right-hand door and the second bay from the northeast featuring an original four-centre arched head with spandrels. There is a moulded fascia above the original oriel window on the left side. The windows consist of one hung sash window, three casement windows on the ground floor, and five casement windows on the first floor.

Inside, the farmhouse has stop-chamfered and moulded ceiling beams, sealed hearths, and one inserted 18th-century hearth. There is a baking oven in the rear wing, which is covered externally by a timber-supported pent roof. The roof structure is wind-braced with side purlins.
