Description

Charity Farmhouse, now a house, dates to the early 16th century, with a later 16th-century extension to the south-east. It was altered in the 19th century and converted into two dwellings, and renovated in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with a plastered brick plinth, 19th-century clay batt, and weatherboarding. It has a hipped thatched roof and a stack to the left. The north-east elevation has two storeys and is jettied to the street, with rear outshuts. A narrow 20th-century entrance is on the right, with a gabled 20th-century canopy, three ground-floor windows and four first-floor windows, including horizontal sliding sashes. The jetty is cased with two small brackets. Inside, the original building consists of four jettied timber-framed bays, extended later by a short jettied bay. There is substantial timber framing and floor framing, with moulded cross beams. This building is of group value.
