Description

This is a late 18th-century house with alterations from the 19th century. Constructed of red brick with stone detailing and plain tiled roofs, it has a double pile plan with gable end stacks and parapet gables. The symmetrical front facade features a moulded stone cornice and copings across five bays. The first floor has five hung sash windows without glazing bars, set within gauged brick window arches. Projecting rectangular bays flank the main entrance, each featuring a pair of similar windows. The wooden doorcase has been cemented over and includes a rusticated surround, fluted pilasters, a Doric frieze, and a pediment with dentil enrichment, above a panelled door. Behind the parapet are two segmental-headed dormer windows. Inside, the original staircase remains, as does the over mantel and chimney piece in the south room, which has a Greek fret design cornice. This later chimney piece is believed to have originally come from Whittlesford Hall, an early 18th-century country house.
