Description
Pilgrim Cottage and Rowland House is a house that has been converted into a pair of houses. It dates from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed, with the section to the left of the stack rendered, while the ground floor of the section under and to the right of the stack is made of red brick in Flemish bond, and the upper part is weatherboarded. The first floor of the left gable end is tile-hung. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features two storeys plus a garret, with a half-hipped roof on the left and a hipped roof on the right. There is a multiple brick ridge stack located towards the centre of the building. The windows are arranged irregularly, consisting of five casements: two deep three-light windows on the left, and two three-light and one two-light window on the right. The entrance to Rowland House has a panelled door with two top lights and a flat corniced and bracketed hood, positioned towards the centre of the right section. The entrance to Pilgrim Cottage features a door with a flat bracketed hood at the left end. There is a lean-to structure on the left gable end and at the rear. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to contain patterned wall-painting.
