Description
No. 157 Milton Road is a building dating from around the 1840s. It is three storeys tall with a semi-basement and constructed of ashlar stone. The building features a cornice and a parapet. On the first floor, there is a cast iron balcony with an attractive Anthemion design. The façade includes four sash windows with intact glazing bars. The easternmost window bay projects and is flanked by pilasters, with a semi-circular tympanum above the first-floor window. The windows above the ground floor are set in moulded surrounds, with the central first-floor window featuring a pediment. There is a modern shopfront at the ground level.
No. 157, along with Nos. 153 to 158, the Roman Catholic Church of St John the Evangelist, and the adjoining school, form a group of buildings of interest. Nos. 154 to 156 are also noted as buildings of local interest.
