Description
No. 88 Sandgate Road is a building dating from around 1880, designed in the Gothic style. It stands two storeys high with attics and is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings, topped by a slate roof. The building features a modified stepped gable that incorporates the Royal Coat of Arms and a five-light mullioned and transomed casement window with a hood moulding above. A crenellated parapet includes two shields displaying the initials V R.
On the first floor, there are two one-light mullioned and transomed windows, two two-light mullioned and transomed windows, and a central three-light mullioned and transomed oriel window that is crenellated above. The ground floor has two two-light mullioned and transomed casement windows with cinquefoil-headed lights, one three-light similar window, brick and stone buttresses, and two projecting crenellated porches with hood moulding and arched doorcases. Above the arches, there is a panel of four trefoil-headed blanks.
