Boxted Lodge, garden walls and gates

GV II

House. Late C18 or early C19. Gault brick in Flemish bond with slate roof. Double depth at right angles to road. 3 storeys. Broad eaves with flat soffits and Ionic modillions in triplets. Hipped roof. 2 rear stacks. Regular 3-window front of recessed 16-pane glazing bar sashes, those to second floor beneath eaves, those to lower storeys with splayed painted brick voussoirs. Central door up 3 steps, with 4 fielded and 2 flush panels. Decorative rectangular fanlight. Architrave with moulded pilasters, plain frieze and corniced hood. Interior not inspected. Garden walls: partly renewed in red brick. Attached to front of house enclosing small oval garden. Ramped up to junction with house. Terminate half way down garden on both sides in plain brick gate-piers with rendered pyramidal caps; double gates to road to north, foot-gate to south.
