Description

Boxted Lodge is a house built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The building has a double depth layout that runs at right angles to the road and stands three storeys tall. It features broad eaves with flat soffits and Ionic modillions arranged in triplets, along with a hipped roof and two rear stacks.

The front of the house has a regular arrangement of three windows, which are recessed 16-pane glazing bar sashes. The second-floor windows are positioned beneath the eaves, while those on the lower storeys have splayed painted brick voussoirs. The central entrance door is accessed by three steps and consists of four fielded panels and two flush panels, topped by a decorative rectangular fanlight. The door is framed by an architrave with moulded pilasters, a plain frieze, and a corniced hood.

The garden walls, which are partly renewed in red brick, are attached to the front of the house and enclose a small oval garden. These walls ramp up to the junction with the house and terminate halfway down the garden on both sides with plain brick gate-piers that have rendered pyramidal caps. There are double gates leading to the road to the north and a foot-gate to the south. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
