Description

The Manor House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century, early 19th century, and 20th century. It has a timber frame, with the ground floor built in painted brick and the first floor rendered, featuring applied 20th century close-studding. The right gable end has channelled render and a tile-hung gable. The 17th century part of the house has a continuous jetty that was altered in the 18th century, and an early 19th century bay was added to the right. The building has two storeys, with the left section having an attic. There is a moulded jetty bressumer on the left section, and the right section has higher eaves and a higher first floor. A projecting stack is located on the left, and a large stack runs parallel to the ridge at the right end of the 17th century section. The rear features dormers. The windows are arranged irregularly, with three in total: two 16-pane glazing bar sashes on the left section and a tripartite sash in the right bay. There is a panelled door under a 20th century open porch at the centre of the left section, and a fragment of wood with bead moulding and the date 1631 is hung above the door. The rendered right return wing has two stacks, and there is a rear lean-to on the left section. Inside, there are a few exposed timbers and chamfer-stopped beams. The staircase is located against the chimney stack on the front side of the house, featuring moulded cheeks, slender balusters from two different periods, and one (likely re-used) 17th century turned newel-post with a ball finial.
