Description
Brookland Antiques and S. Coleman and Sons consists of two houses that have been converted into two shops and a house. The front of the building dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century, while the main structure likely dates back to the 18th century or earlier. The eaves of Brookland Antiques were altered in the 20th century. The main range features a rear wing on the left and a narrow parallel rear range on the right, which has a rendered wing at the back. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a plain tile roof. It stands two storeys high with broad projecting eaves. Old photographs reveal a cogged brick eaves cornice on Brookland Antiques. There are brick end stacks and an irregular arrangement of windows: a canted bay window on the left third of the first floor for Coleman and Sons, and two recessed tripartite sash windows on the right two-thirds for Brookland Antiques. A glazed door is centrally located in the left third within an early 20th-century shop front. The right two-thirds features three 20th-century bow windows with a glazed door between the left and central bows. The interior has only been partially inspected, but exposed beams are visible in Brookland Antiques.
