Description

Vine Cottage and Vine House are two houses located on the north side of Ash the Street, dating from the 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof.

Vine Cottage features two storeys with painted quoins and a hipped roof, along with a central stack on the left. The front has two irregularly sized wooden casements on each floor, with painted heads on the ground floor, and a central half-glazed door that has a flat hood and painted head.

Vine House, on the right, is a mid-19th century structure in an Old English style. It has two storeys and a garret, characterized by a moulded bresummer above two bargeboarded gables, which feature applied half-timbering and terracotta pinnacles. There are stacks on both the left and right sides. Each gable has one sash window with rounded upper leaves, while the first floor has two sash windows, and the ground floor has two canted bay windows. The central porch is two storeys high with a hipped roof, featuring a round-headed sash window on the first floor and an open porch on the ground floor supported by piers, which have valancing to a moulded cornice. The door consists of six panels, with the top two being glazed. There is also a single-storey garage extension to the right.

These buildings are included for their group value with Griffin Cottage.
