Description

The sewer vent column, dating from around 1870, is located on Albany Drive in Herne Bay. It was manufactured by W Macfarlane and Co. in Glasgow and is made of cast iron. The column consists of two lengths of circular pipe, with the lower section featuring a wider base. The upper section is topped with a Corinthian capital, which includes a ball fitting, an arrow windvane, and a spike adorned with a filigree crown. This column is one of several similar sewer vent columns found in Herne Bay.
