Description

The sewer vent column, dating from around 1870, was manufactured by W Macfarlane and Co. in Glasgow. It is made of cast iron and consists of a circular column composed of two lengths of pipe. The lower section has a wider base, while the upper section features a Corinthian capital topped with a ball fitting and a spike adorned with a filigree crown. This column is one of a series of similar sewer vent columns located in Herne Bay.
