Description
The Pier Hotel, originally known as Leigh's Assembly Room, dates from around 1820. This three-storey building is finished in stucco and features three windows. It is distinguished by four Corinthian pilasters that rise from the first to the second floor, topped with an entablature that includes a dentilled cornice and a parapet with a central pediment. The first and second floor windows are framed with moulded architrave surrounds and have cornices above, supported by consoles. The glazing bars are intact only on the second floor. The ground floor has a late 19th century public house front that has been added. The building is listed for its historical significance and its contribution to the surrounding area.
