Description

Crea House, formerly known as Bennetts The Butchers and the house adjoining, is a house and shop dating from the 17th century, with a date of 1681 marked in blue headers. The building features a timber frame clad in red brick and tile hanging, topped with a plain tile roof. It stands two storeys high on a plinth and has a plat band. The roof is gabled to the left with a projecting end stack and hipped to the right with a ridge stack.

The left section of the building is constructed of red brick and has two 19th-century sash windows on the first floor, and two glazing bar sashes on the ground floor; one is located to the left in a large blocked segment-headed opening, while the other is in a round-arched opening to the right. There is a door to the centre left with six fielded panels, topped by a flat hood supported on brackets.

To the right is the butcher's shop, which is an 18th-century extension. This section is tile hung on the first floor and features one glazing bar sash window. The ground floor has a 19th-century shop front with a pentice supported by three cast iron pillars and wrought iron scrolled brackets. A large beam with game hooks is located to the left. The rear and side elevations are tile hung on the first floor.
