Description

Cumberland House is a hall house dating to the late 15th century. It has a timber frame construction with a red brick plinth and a plain tile roof. The house is two storeys high, with a continuous jetty to the first floor. An eaves cornice runs along the hipped roof, which features gablets and three projecting stacks – two at the ends and one central. The central bays have jettied floor joists, indicating the insertion of a floor at a higher level than the side bays. It has an irregular arrangement of windows: five 20th-century wooden casement windows to the first floor, three 20th-century segmental bay windows to the ground floor, and a 20th-century plank door in the centre to the right.
