Description

12 Chesil Street is a late 18th-century front to a 17th-century building. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of red brick, featuring grey brick bands between the floors, a moulded brick dentil cornice, and a rebuilt parapet. The roof is covered with old tiles. The entrance has a notable doorway with engaged Tuscan columns that have reeded capitals, a reeded frieze, and an open pediment. The six-panel door includes two glazed panels. The building has sash windows with glazing bars. The garden front, which faces the river, features an original gabled stone section dating from 1609. Inside, there are 17th-century paintings and other features. A massive diamond-shaped chimney from the 17th century is located at the north end of the building. An adjoining gabled stable block is timber-framed with brick infill. This property is part of a group that includes Nos 1, 3, 4 to 12 (even) and St Peter's Theatre.
