Description

New Hall is a late 17th century or early 18th century building located on Newport Street. It is two storeys high with an attic, constructed of red brick and topped with a hipped pantile roof. The first floor features a brick band, and although the cornice has been mostly removed, a dentil cornice remains on the side. The façade includes five sash windows set in reveals, with glazing bars and flat arches that are now covered in stucco.

A Roman Doric porch enhances the entrance, featuring fluted columns, an ornamental frieze, and an entablature. The door is made up of six panels and has an oblong fanlight with ornamental glazing bars, framed by an architrave surround with consoles. There are two chimney stacks with moulded bases and brick cornices.

Inside, the building boasts two original close-string newel staircases, chimneypieces, and a plaster ornamental ceiling dating from around 1750 to 1760. To the left, there is a wing that is two storeys high, set back from the main structure, featuring tumbled brickwork on the gable end and a half-hipped pantile roof. This wing includes one sliding sash window with glazing bars above a garage door, as well as a panelled door with a flat hood.
