Description
The Assembly Rooms, originally known as Temperance Hall, were built in 1843. The building is constructed of local red-brown brick with a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high and five bays wide, with the central bay slightly projecting and the side bays emphasised by pilasters. The central bay features a six-panel door with an oblong fanlight, set within a pilastered doorcase with a projecting cornice. Flanking it are two further entrances, each with a four-panel door and oblong fanlight, and topped with channelled, cambered stone lintels featuring keystones. The ground floor windows are 16-pane sashes; the first floor has 24-pane sashes. A plaque above the central entrances reads 'ASSEMBLY Rooms'. All windows are topped with channelled, cambered stone lintels with keystones. Above the first-floor windows of the side bays are oblong sunk panels. A stepped brick cornice finishes the building.
