Description
Keate House is an 18th-century building located on Keats Lane. It is constructed of red brick and stands two storeys tall, featuring five double-hung sash windows set in reveals with stone sills and rubbed flat arches. The ground and first floor windows are fitted with shutters. The entrance is accessed via stone steps and is adorned with original cast iron railings. The doorway is framed by Roman Doric pilasters on plinths, topped with an entablature that has a dentil cornice and a pediment. It also includes a fine traceried fanlight and a six-panel door, which has four fielded panels and two flush panels.
To the right on the ground floor, there is a modern bay window. The building has a modillion brick cornice and an old tiled hipped roof. There is an early 18th-century wing that rises three storeys, which has been heightened and features brick sash windows with glazing bars and flat arches. A semi-circular arched niche is present on the second floor, along with an entablature at the third-floor level. The hipped roof of this wing is finished with a corbelled cornice and a stone ball finial.
