Description
The Memorial Buildings at Eton College were constructed between 1905 and 1908 as a memorial for the Boer War. The buildings are made of red brick with Portland stone dressings and quoins, with the ground floor entirely in rusticated stone. The complex consists of two buildings. The south building features a rectangular front with a large Ionic doorway, flanked by wide limestone pilasters and a single round-headed window. The outer sections are bordered by pilasters that are rusticated in both limestone and brick. At the top, there is a limestone balustraded parapet with a solid central portion. The north building is octagonal and topped with a lead dome and a cupola. Each wall of this building has a round-headed window flanked by narrow pilasters, with a stepped parapet above that is adorned with urns. Together, these buildings house the Library and the School Hall. The architect responsible for the design is L K Hall.
