Description

No 1 Chesil Street, also known as the Old St Peter's Rectory or Cheese House, is a building dated 1459, but likely constructed in the early 16th century. It is two storeys high and features two gables facing the road. The structure is timber-framed with plaster infilling, and the upper part overhangs the brick ground floor. The gable ends have carved bargeboards, and there is a projecting porch with a carved head. Inside, there is 17th-century panelling. The building has modern windows on either side of the doorway and a tiled roof. No 1 Chesil Street is part of a group that includes Nos 1, 3, 4 to 12 (even) and St Peter's Theatre.
