Description
1 Water Lane, known as the City Mill, is a building dated 1744 that has been converted into a Youth Hostel. The structure features a four-storey gable with a lower floor made of red brick and an upper part that is tile hung beneath an old tile roof. The windows, which are modern leaded, are arranged symmetrically: there are two windows on the ground floor, four on the first floor, two on the second floor, and a central hoist door, with one window on the third floor. At the back of the old Mill Cafe, there is a two-storey brick building that is part of the City Mill, also with an old tile roof, which has two windows visible on its south front. No 1 Water Lane forms a group with Nos 1 to 4 Bridge Street and the City Bridge on High Street.
