Description

Milestone located opposite the churchyard of the Church of St Denys in Chilworth. This milestone dates from the early 19th century and is made of painted stone with an attached cast-iron plate. The stone is rectangular with a slightly rounded top. On the front, there is a large rectangular cast-iron plate inscribed with '8 miles TO BOTLEY, 4 TO ROMSEY'. It is situated on the route of the Whiteparish, Romsey & Southampton Turnpike, established in 1755.
