Description

This milestone, located 20 meters east of the junction with Nutburn Lane in North Baddesley, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and features an attached cast-iron plate. The stone is rectangular with a slightly rounded top, and the front displays a large rectangular cast-iron plate inscribed with the distances: '9 miles TO BOTLEY, 3 TO ROMSEY'. This milestone is situated on the route of the Whiteparish, Romsey and Southampton Turnpike, established in 1755.
