Description

Body Farm is a farmhouse that may have originally been a mid-16th century hall-house, with alterations made in the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed with brick infill and recasing from the 18th and 19th centuries. The roof is covered with plain tiles, hipped at the west end and gabled at the east end, featuring a ridge stack and an external gable stack. The layout follows a lobby-entry plan.

The south front has two storeys and four bays. There is an off-centre doorway with a cambered arch and a 20th-century door. To the left of the doorway is a two-light casement window with a cambered arch, followed by a brick buttress. To the right, there is a three-light casement and then another two-light casement, both with cambered arches, followed by another brick buttress. Above these, from left to right, are a two-light casement, a single-light casement, and a three-light casement, all of which are 20th-century casements.

The north elevation features a continuous outshut of 19th-century brick and retains some wattle and daub infill in its upper framing. Inside, there is a large central stack, and the upper floors were likely inserted in the late 17th century. The ground floor displays chamfered and flat-stopped main beams and joists, while substantial visible remains of the timber frame can be seen on the first floor. The roof has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries.
