Description
Atcham Grange is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th or 17th century and was partially remodeled and extended in the mid- to late 19th century. It features a timber frame that has been refaced, partly rebuilt, and extended in red brick, which is painted on the north side. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The building has a hall and cross-wing plan with additional structures. It stands two storeys high, with an attic, and has a dentil brick eaves cornice and verges. A large central ridge stack is located at the junction of the hall range and the cross-wing, along with an external brick end stack on the left side.
The windows are segmental-headed 19th-century wooden casements, some of which have Gothic-arched lights. The left-hand gable features a two-light attic window, two two-light first-floor windows with transoms, and a ground-floor segmental-headed blocked doorway to the left. To the right, there is a canted hipped bay with an inserted four-panelled door. The two-bay hall range on the right has two- and three-light casements. A late 19th-century two-storey addition is located on the left, which includes a first-floor cross window and a ground-floor three-light window with a transom. There is also a late 19th-century one-storey and attic addition to the right, featuring a 20th-century two-light casement window at the front.
Inside, some of the framing is visible, along with chamfered beams and a large open fireplace. The fittings include 16th or 17th-century plank and muntin doors, as well as panelled wall cupboards in the first-floor room.
