Description

Milestone located on the west side of the road, 1500 metres south of the roundabout with the A31. This milestone dates from the early 19th century and is made of painted stone with a cast-iron plate. It has a rectangular-section stone body with a slightly rounded top. The cast-iron plate on the front is inscribed with '7 miles TO SOTON, 1 TO ROMSEY'. It is situated on the route of the Whiteparish, Romsey, and Southampton Turnpike, established in 1755.
