Description

Milestone located opposite the junction with Heatherlands Road, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and features an attached cast-iron plate. The stone is rectangular with a slightly rounded top, and the front displays a large rectangular cast-iron plate inscribed with '7 miles TO BOTLEY, 5 TO ROMSEY.' This milestone is on the route of the Whiteparish, Romsey and Southampton Turnpike, established in 1755.
