Description
The gateway at Ashfield Lodge, built in 1870 by W E Nesfield, consists of two gatepiers and associated flank walls. These square brick structures feature stone caps and moulded feet above plain brick plinths. The caps are topped with ornamented finials and have a series of Gothic mouldings forming a cornice. The brickwork includes recessed panels, some adorned with floral decorations, and the ribbed effect mirrors that of the Lodge's chimney stacks. Between the north pier and the Lodge, there is a short low brick wall that supports a wooden rail on balusters, topped with wrought iron 'spike' ornamentation. To the south of the south pier, a high plain brick wall with a flat buttress is present. The gates are from the late 20th century.
