Description
The Gateway to Melchet Court is a structure built in 1914 by Darcy Braddell. It is made of brick with brick and stone dressings and features an old plain tile roof. The gateway has three bays, with a central two-storey gateway and a room above, flanked by two-storey bays on each side.
In the center, there is a tall stone four-centred arch with carved spandrels. Above the arch, there is an oriel window made of stone, with leaded lights and a tented lead roof, set within a gable that has a large console bracket and finials. The side bays have full-height pilasters on the inner corners, which support consoles leading to the gables, while the outer corners feature brick rustications. Next to the pilasters, there are ledged doors in small moulded brick surrounds.
Each floor has three-light mullioned moulded brick windows with leaded lights. The structure is topped with an openwork brick parapet, and at each end, there are two moulded brick shafted stacks and a hipped roof, with an octagonal stack on the central ridge.
