Description
West Lodge to Ince Blundell Hall is a gatehouse built in the mid-19th century, with 20th-century extensions on the sides. It is constructed of brick with stone decorations and features a slate roof adorned with fish scale bands. The building consists of three bays, with the central bay rising to two storeys while the flanking bays are one storey with an attic. The central bay projects forward and includes angle pilaster strips along with a bracketed frieze and cornice. The flanking bays have quoins and a cornice as well.
The windows are round-headed, featuring stone surrounds, keys, and sashes with margin lights. The central bay has paired windows on the first floor, while the flanking bays have round-headed dormers with stone surrounds and ball finials, equipped with casements that also have margin lights. The central entrance gateway is round-arched, complete with an archivolt and a jewelled keystone, and is flanked by cast iron gates. The spandrels are decorated with ribbands and shields, with the left spandrel displaying the Blundell arms, topped by a cornice.
The central bay is capped with a pyramidal roof that has a spike finial and four angle stacks, while the flanking bays feature hipped roofs with spike finials.
