Bridge Lane Gatehouse, Ferguslie Thread Works, Paisley

The Bridge Lane Gatehouse at Ferguslie Thread Works in Paisley is a two-storey gatehouse with a tower, designed by architects Woodhouse and Morley from Bradford in 1887. This building features a Renaissance style and is constructed from brick with ashlar dressings and angle pilasters.

The west front is symmetrical with five bays. It has a doorpiece that includes channelled pilasters supporting a round arch. On either side of the door, there are paired windows with stilted segmental arches set on an impost moulding, along with a continuous cill course. Above the ground floor, there is a cornice, and on the first floor, the central bay has paired panelled pilasters flanking a round-arched window, which also has an impost moulding and apron. Similar paired windows are found on either side.

The eaves feature a cornice and a balustrade with dies over the pilasters, which are topped with urns at the corners. The roof is piended and covered with slate. The tower above the central bay is two stages high, with angle pilasters. The first stage, flanked by scrolls, has two oculi on the front and a cornice above. The second stage features a clock on each face and a cornice with brackets. It is topped with a low pyramidal slate roof and an iron wind vane.

The return elevation is similarly detailed, with the north side having a blind centre bay and the south side featuring a blind centre bay at ground level and a canted window to the right.
