Description

Kincraig House Hotel is a large, late 19th century, two-storey and attic building. It features a much-altered, symmetrical three-bay central portion from the 1800s. The exterior is harled, with tooled and polished ashlar dressings and margins. The south front is nearly symmetrical, with a former central entrance now a window, set within a bracketed corniced doorpiece that has a decorated entablature and engaged Ionic columns; a coat of arms is positioned on the cornice.

Flanking the entrance are tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors. The tall centre is topped with a crow-stepped gable, flanked by dummy corbelled bartizans that have blind cruciform arrow slits and conical roofs. The central three bays are flanked by advanced gabled two-storey wings, which feature four-light windows on the ground floors and tripartites on the first floor, with rounded ground floor angles, corbel detailing, and string courses above.

The long west elevation includes an advanced near-centre gabled bay with the main entrance set in a hoodmoulded Tudor arch, above which is an oriel window. An angle drum tower rises three storeys at the southwest corner, culminating in a conical roof with a cast-iron weathervane. The building primarily has two-pane glazing with multi-pane upper lights.

Various rear extensions conceal the base of the original projecting semi-circular stairwell, which rises into a piended bowed roof. The building features corniced end and ridge stacks, crowsteps, and slate roofs.
