Description
Sherfield English Primary School is a mid-19th century school building constructed of brick with stone dressings. The upper parts feature timber framing with plaster infill and an old plain tile roof. The building has six bays and is one and a half stories high, with projecting wings at both ends of the house section and at one end bay of the school. The left bay projects forward by half a bay and includes a four-panel top-glazed door next to a three-light window. Above this, there is a coved plaster jetty. The left bay also features a four-light casement window above a toothed brick string, and in the half-hipped gable, there is a three-light casement. Over the other bay, there is a two-light window in a half-hipped dormer. All windows are leaded. An external chimney is located on the front of the next bay, tapering to two shafts. The next two bays and the end bay have a five-light basement with a toothed cill string. Between the projecting schoolroom, there is a large four-light transomed window with a cill string and a half-timbered gable. The roof at the right end overhangs on stone brackets, while the left side has a hipped roof with another external brick stack at the end.
