Description
Benchmark Cottage is a house. The core of the building is timber-framed and dates to an earlier period, with significant extensions and recladding occurring around 1800. A further extension was added in the 20th century. The construction is flint and thatch. The house is largely single-storey and attic, though partially two-storied, with an irregular arrangement of windows. The roof has a ridge that lowers toward the east, with hips at each end, and includes one eyebrow dormer. The flint walls incorporate brick quoins and cambered arches, with some banding. Alterations and 20th-century brickwork are visible on the east side. The windows are casements. The doorways are plain. At the west end, a wide stack has been added, featuring flint-panelled walls and a brickwork upper portion. A stone plaque is inscribed "1 8 M B 0 0", and the plinth features a benchmark.
