Description

The Old Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations in the late 18th century and early 20th century. Originally two dwellings, it is a timber-framed building with some later cladding; the rear wing is constructed of flint and brick. The roof is tiled. The north front, which is the main façade, is of one storey and an attic, with two windows above three. The roof is plain, featuring a central shafted stack and a larger stack attached to the west end. There are half-hipped dormers with sills level with the eaves. The eastern half of the front has exposed timber framing with rendered infill; the rest of the front is rendered. The windows are casements. A doorway is sheltered by a canopy with a panelled frieze featuring acanthus leaves on either side, above panelled pilasters, and it has a boarded door. A triangular projection to the west has a tiled roof. The east elevation displays a gable on the north side with exposed timber framing. A two-storey rear extension from the late 18th century features flint horizontal panels with brick quoins, bands, and a cambered arch, and contains casement windows. A further single-storey extension is in a similar style, with a large, flat-roofed dormer.
