Description

This milestone, located on the south side of the road 600 meters east of Upper Sandy Down Cottage, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of painted stone and has a square section with a rounded top. The stone is set at an angle to the road and features a cut inscription on two faces that reads '2 miles to Stockbridge' and '65 miles to LONDON'. Additionally, there is a hollowed-out corner at the bottom containing the inscription '19 to Basingstoke'.
