Description

This is a large townhouse, now a shop, dating from the mid-18th century and altered in the 20th century. It is situated on the east side of the High Street in Fordingbridge. The building is constructed of brick with an old plain tile roof. It is two storeys and an attic, with seven bays facing the street, and includes a service wing to the rear on the right-hand side.

The front elevation features a large, recessed arched entrance to the left-hand bay, with painted keyblocks and double doors, each consisting of six panels. In the centre is a tall six-panel door with an arched fanlight above, set within a doorcase of panelled pilasters, topped by carved scroll brackets supporting an open pediment. Flanking this central door are 20th-century shop fronts, each containing a recessed door and a large window within a rendered frame. The first floor retains seven window openings, now filled with 20th-century aluminium sash windows, originally arched with raised keys. Dormer windows with hipped roofs are visible above the end and centre bays.
