Description
This is a pair of shops located at 2 and 4 High Street in Fordingbridge. The building has a core from the 17th century and has been remodeled in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It features a timber-frame core, is rendered in brick, and has a plain tile roof. The structure is two stories tall with an attic and consists of three bays, with a central passageway leading to a rear wing on the right-hand side.
The front of the building includes a wood-framed archway for the passage. On the right side, there is a shopfront designed in the 19th-century style, featuring a central glazed door and an 8-pane window on the right that slightly projects, with a 4-pane window to the left. A moulded cornice runs across the entire front. On the left side, there is a similar shopfront with a door to the right and a projecting 8-pane window.
On the first floor, there are three 2-light casement windows with camber heads, and a dentilled cornice is present above. The building also has three 2-light dormers with hip roofs. This pair of shops is significant in the street scene as it faces down Bridge Street and is included for its group value.
