Description

This building, located at 63-71 Market Place, is a row of shops with a core dating back to the 17th century, which has been altered in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It features a timber-frame core with brick and rendered surfaces, topped by an old plain tile roof. The structure is irregular, consisting of one and a half storeys and nine bays.

Starting from the left-hand side, there is a 19th-century canted bay window. The next two bays extend outward and include a plank door and a 12-pane sash window. Following this, there is a shop front with small 8-pane windows on either side of a half-glazed door, which has a cast-iron game frame above it. The next bays feature 20th-century plate glass windows with small panes above. There is an outshot shop front with two bays, a central recess, and similar shop windows. The right-hand bay is blank.

On either side of the centre bay, there are two early 20th-century gabled dormers with four lights. The left-hand bay has a two-light dormer. Above the centre bay, there is a large brick stack with bisected panels on each face, along with a stack at the right end and a projecting stack on the front beside the left of the centre outshot part. At the rear, there are various 20th-century flat-roofed lean-tos.
