Description
Nos 4 and 5-6 High Street in Doncaster are two shops that were originally three shops, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed with a timber frame, and feature brick that is rendered and painted. They have a steeply pitched slate roof. The street front was formerly jettied but has since been underbuilt. On the right side, there is a late 20th-century shop front, while the left side has a passage entry leading to a small early 20th-century shop front. Above the right side, there are a pair of two-light windows and a single tall gabled dormer window with three-light casement. On the left side, there is a large single glazing bar window that rises into a tall gabled dormer.
Inside, some of the principal posts from the original timber frame remain, and the simple common rafter roof is largely intact. Other fragments of the timber frame may still exist, concealed within the current walls.
