Description
15 and 17 Market Street is a pair of shops dating from the early 17th century. The building features a rendered and whitewashed timber frame with a brick underbuilt jetty and a pantile roof. It has two storeys. The right side of the elevation has a 20th-century shop display window, while the central part has a door and an 18th-century display window to the left. On the first floor, there is a two-light mullioned window to the left and two three-light similar windows to the right, separated by a principal stud on the interior. The roof is gabled with internal gable-end stacks. At the rear, there is a brick-skinned cross wing with a staircase addition to a former flat. Inside, the ground floor includes a chamfered bridging beam to the east and a sunk-quadrant bridging beam to the west, along with plain joists and a winder by the stack. There are also two good early 17th-century plank doors leading to the upper floor and jowled principal studs.
