Description
Nos. 8, 10, and 10A on Market Street are a range of three shops that date from the 16th century and later. The buildings feature a rendered and whitewashed timber frame with brick elements. The front has a machine tile roof, while the rear is covered with pantiles. They are two storeys high. No. 10 has a late 19th-century plate glass shop front, while the other shop fronts are from the 20th century. The first floor jetties out, with the bressumer hidden by render and fascia boards. No. 8 has 20th-century two-light cross casements on the first floor, arranged in groups of two. The roof is gabled, and there is an 18th-century rear wing with horned sash windows.
Inside, No. 8 features an opened-out ground floor with arched wall braces that have roll and hollow mouldings in the northwest corner. The roof has been rebuilt. No. 10A, the center shop, includes a roll moulded bridging beam on the ground floor and a roof with one heavy cambered tie, which is boarded above. No. 10, the eastern shop, has heavy jowled studs on the first floor and a roll and hollow moulded arched brace at the east end, but the roof is not accessible.
