Description
Nos. 16, 16A, and 16C on Market Street are a shop and offices dating from the 16th century and later. The building features a rendered timber frame with a later brick and timber rear block that extends in an L-shape. The front has a slate roof, while the rear is covered with pantiles. It is two storeys high and has a small 19th-century shop front with a glazed door. The first floor jetties out over a carriage entrance to the west. There are two first-floor sash windows with glazing bars. The gabled roof shares a stack with No. 12 to the west, and there is a blocked doorway to the south. The original extent of the rear wing shows exposed studs at the jettied first floor. The ground floor has one sash window, and the first floor features one three-light late 18th-century casement and a small 20th-century window. The external south gable end has a stack, and there is a two-storey extension with a dormer in three irregular bays. The ground floor of the extension has a 20th-century door and two casements, while the first floor has one 20th-century casement and a late 18th-century three-light iron casement. The interior has plain joists and studs, and while the first floors and roof are not accessible, they are likely to be of interest.
