Description

Hope Cottage is a late 18th century to early 19th century building located on Castle Street in Portchester. It features a stuccoed facade that is grooved to simulate masonry, and has an old tiled hipped roof that is truncated at the southeast end. The building is two storeys high and has two windows with unbarred sashes. Above the six-panelled door, which has the top two panels now glazed, there is a bracketed flat hood set in a moulded architrave. Hope Cottage is part of a group of buildings that includes Nos 183 and 185, No 189, Nos 193 to 201 (odd), No 195A, and Nos 209 to 219 (odd), as well as Nos 200 to 204 (even) opposite.
