Description
Golden Cot is a late 18th century or early 19th century building located on Castle Street in Portchester. It is now two houses but retains a symmetrical facade. The exterior features a roughcast finish with a cornice and parapet, topped by an old tiled hipped roof. The building has three storeys and three windows, which are generally sash windows with exposed frames and cambered head linings, featuring late 19th century glazing. On the ground floor of the north side, there is a later 19th century angular bay window. The first floor and the south side ground floor have three-light sash windows. The central door, likely a reproduction, is adorned with a pediment, moulded architrave, pilasters, and arched panels at the top. The lower part of the rear has a similar facade and roof. There is a side entrance to No 96. Golden Cot is included for its group value with the adjacent buildings, Nos 94 to 100 (even), which form a group with Nos 67 to 73 (odd) and No 81.
