Description

The Retreat is an 18th-century building that was altered in the 19th century. It features a rendered facade with a coped parapet and a double span hipped tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has one window, which is a later 19th-century bay with a cornice and unbarred sashes. A fine 18th-century doorcase is present, complete with a pediment and engaged fluted Ionic pillars, leading to a six-panelled door, of which the top two panels are now glazed. On the north side, there is a one-storey outshut with large double wooden doors. The south side facade includes a brick eaves cornice, a canted bay on the first floor, and one sash window with a cambered head and glazing bars. The Retreat is part of a group that includes Nos 94 to 100 (even) and Nos 67 to 73 (odd) and No 81.
