Description
This milestone, located on the west side of the B2070 London Road, just south of the entrance to Bohunt Manor, dates from around 1820. It is part of a series of milestones along the London to Portsmouth road (A3). The stone pillar is square in shape and placed diagonally. The upper part of the front features a carved quadrant sloping panel, above a small triangular sloping panel. The rounded front is inscribed with "HYDE PARK CORNER," while the triangular panel indicates the distance to London as 44 miles. The eastern lower panel states "PETERSFIELD 8 MILES," although the inscription on the western panel is now unreadable. This milestone is one of several from around 1820 that still exist along the A3.
